In "American Screenwriters," Cameron said that he wrote this in 6 weeks, having taken contracts to write this *and* Rambo in 3 months. You may also wish to read the rejected Aliens III script by William Gibson, which would have starred Michael Bien as Hicks if they'd made it. It continues the Aliens mythology in a way that would have brought us something new in Aliens IV--which, unfortunately, didn't happen. Instead, we got 2 more Aliens movies that did nothing to further the story, and I won't even comment on AvP, though those featured my 2 favorite monsters of all time. The difference between this Aliens and the original Alien is that Alien is a Horror, this is an Action film. Two completely separate genres, and very well crossed over.
